Stabilization

Ensuring the Stability of
Power Networks

Renewable energy sources such as wind and solar power are subject to sharp fluctuations in output, depending on the weather and time of day. Therefore, the mass introduction of renewable energy requires output adjustment capability to absorb output fluctuations and stabilize the power network.

The J-POWER Group contributes to the expansion of renewable energy by keeping power networks stable using power sources with flexible output adjustment.

For example, pumped storage hydroelectric power generation offers the ability to absorb surplus power. Hydrogen power generation through coal gasification can also support power network load leveling, as it can adjust output more quickly than conventional thermal power generation.

Increasing Power Network Stability

Distributed Energy Services

We will help to optimize the balance of energy supply and demand by using digital technology to connect and centralize management of renewable energy, storage batteries and energy customers dispersed throughout Japan.

Blue Mission 8

Improvements

Expanding and Reinforcing Power Networks

The J-POWER Group connects Japan, and supports the operation of wide-area electric power systems through its DC transmission lines, submarine cables and frequency converter stations. By upgrading the Sakuma Frequency Converter Station, which handles flexible power distribution between eastern and western Japan (which operate at different grid frequencies), and by replacing power transmission lines, we are helping to enhance the domestic electrical power network.
* Contribution to the power network enhancement is an initiative of J-POWER Transmission Network.
