J-POWER acquired an equity share in Gulf Electric Public Company Limited (GEC), a holding company active in IPP business in Thailand. J-POWER owns 49% of the entire stock equity. GEC owns an IPP project and SPP projects in Thailand.

GEC was established in Thailand in 1994 as a holding company engaged in the IPP business. GEC owns 100 percent of the equity of Gulf Cogeneration Company Limited located in Kaeang Khoi area of Saraburi province, Thailand. This facility has an output capacity of 110MW, a steam output of 20 tons per hour, and has been in commercial operation since September,1998.

In November 2002, GEC acquired 100 percent of equity of two gas co-generation companies located in Nong Khae area of Saraburi Province and Bangpoo area of Samutprakarn Province respectively in Thailand. The former facility has an output capacity of 120MW, a steam output of 24 tons per hour, and has been in commercial operation since October 2000. The latter facility has an output capacity of 117MW, a steam output of 21.5 tons per hour, and has been in commercial operation since August 1999.

GEC also began to construct Kaeng Koi 2 Project (gas combind cycle, 734MW×2 units) from December 1994.
No.1 unit of Kaeng Koi2 came into commercial operation in May 2007, and so did No.2 unit in March 2008.
