J-POWER has built and run hydroelectric power stations for over 50 years. As of the end of March 2013, its 58 hydroelectric power stations in Japan had a total capacity of 8,556 megawatts, accounting for 19% of Japan's hydroelectricity.

J-POWER operates seven coal-fired and one geothermal power station in this category. It specializes in coal-fired power generation.

As of March 2013, J-POWER operated seven coal-fired power stations with a combined output of 8,412 megawatts. J-POWER is the largest coal-fired thermal power station operator in Japan, with 21% share of nationwide output.
